Mailout Soundtrack
Tahlia goes on her own fear and loathing adventure butinstead of taking a drug haul she's getting blown away by how crap Surfers Paradise is!
Lyndon checks out the local produce of Grave New World.
The new theatre focussed column by Christopher Isaacs has a neat little home now.
In terms of gigs, well there's a lot to chose from particularly tomorrow night should I check Autechre or chould I check Tame Impala. You decide for yourselves and so will we!
This weeks mailout soundtrack comes from Tame Impala as it really is their week in their home town. Click on the dancing hot dog to hear them!
Articulate your loving, see you there! xxx

DOUBLE CD REVIEW - 2 FRESH RECORDS FROM 'GRAVE NEW WORLD'
Fwoom! I light a scented candle, you know, to enhance to the mood, settle down with a suitably heated beverage and shhhhhck insert a disc into the player. There was no shortage of good shows this week, on the contrary, they were abundant – but I’d like to share this moment with you to check out some recorded tones. Given the showcase of local record labels at Love Is My Velocity’s recent Takeaway Tunes store, it seems fitting to explore the inaugural releases from perhaps Perth’s newest label featured therein. Grave New World, established this year, has thus far delivered two servings of local sound. Here they are.

steady eye with tahlia palmer
Using his what as a paintbrush?
I am writing this week’s article in a hotel room, at a golf resort, just outside of Surfer’s Paradise. The last time I was in Queensland, I must have been about ten years old? Maybe? So when I was invited to accompany my filmmaker friend with my camera, I jumped at the chance. Most expenses paid? Yes please. The only problem is that this place has proven to be incredibly average. It’s only been about twenty-four hours, but so far Surfer’s Paradise is a total non-event.

When Harry Met Harry: Humour Within Organised Agony
There have been a number of successful and creative one-person shows performed in The Blue Room Studio over the last four years. When Harry Met Harry contributes highly to this already growing list of single performer based production.
Harry’s organised life behind his desk in the printing department of a company is thrown into disarray when he is ordered to attend a ‘personal development’ programme.

Matt Rösner - Tape Series Launch
kulcha
West Australian based sound artist Matt Rösner releases a limited edition cassette tape on Friday May 28 at Kulcha in Fremantle.
The cassette tape is available in a super limited edition of 50 and includes 45 minutes of previously unreleased collaborations with Perth artists Greg Taw and Adam Trainer recorded over the past 18 months.
Using guitar and piano improvisations played by Adam and Greg as a starting points, Matt Rösner has added field recordings and max/msp processing to craft longform pieces that play at the listeners sense of time and place.
Joining Matt Rösner at the launch are The Ghost of 29 Megacycles, with DJ Adam Trainer (RTRFM Posted) spinning tunes in between the live acts.
Also expect to see impromptu improvisations between Greg, Matt and Adam during the show.
The cassette tape is only available at local shows and via Matt Rösner’s website pablodali.net
The tape launch follows on from the release of the “repeat” 12” LP late last year on UK label Miatera.

WASTELAND PRESENTS: 'TALES OF TERROR', BY BEN FROST
WASTELAND GALLERY
Wasteland Gallery King Street presents the new works of artist BEN FROST in his latest solo exhibition, Saturday May 29th.
This is the much anticipated exhibition to mark Ben’s second assault on Perth, and fans of the controversial artist will not be disappointed, with the opportunity to purchase new work, limited editions, and meet one of Australia’s leading contemporary artists.
Frost’s work is a statement on society’s continuing loss of innocence and the capitalists-corporate-western-death-machine that we are living in. His works attempt to devalue an entire corporate through the mis-use of their pride and joy mascots and logos....

Holly Miranda (USA)
she's in Australia as Lou Reed invited her..
I just want to get tickets for this now!
Tuesday, June 8, Holly Miranda (USA) plays Manhattans. Yesss! Popfrenzy is proud to announce the very first visit of American singer-songwriter and musician Holly Miranda. Invited by influential American rocker Lou Reed and critically acclaimed artist and musician Laurie Anderson to join the likes of Boris, Bardo Pond, My Brightest Diamond and King Khan for this years Vivid LIVE Festival - Miranda will also be performing shows in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth.
You might have heard about Holly Miranda from a different source, like fan Kanye West. The hip-hop star pimped one of her tracks on his website over a year ago, and it wasn't long before hipster music blogs and even Vanity Fair joined in the
bandgwagon. Her solo album “The Magician’s Private Library” (XL Recordings) was released early this year to rave reviews and led to support slots with The XX, Friendly Fires and The Antlers. Miranda grew up singing in church, learning piano at age 6 and picking up the guitar at 14, around the time she began writing songs. After moving New York, she met the people she'd eventually refer to as bandmates for The Jealous Girlfriends, a reputable indie band that is currently on a break, Miranda said, but all continuing on their own musical pursuits.
Supporting on this night are Felicity Groom and the Black Black Smoke plus Rabbit Island. Tickets for this show are available thru www.moshtix.com.au $25+bf OR $30 on door from 8pm.

Recently I launched an EP called "Handled" which features two of the songs from my upcoming album. This is available digitally on iTunes as well as a limited edition 7 inch record which I will be selling at all my shows in May.
The next phase of my career is about to get really exciting as I am signing with the incredible Australian label Modular, based in Sydney.”
