Mailout Soundtrack
This weeks mailout soundtrack comes from Broken Social Scene. Click on the dutch cocaine factory to hear some of their tunes!
Broken Social scene outta Toronto Canada have created sophisticated and clean produced ye gritty, dynamic and uber melodic guitar pop for a while now. All their stuff is excellent even the muzak stuff like pacific theme from the you forgot it in people album - somehow they remain cool with all that they do - it could be that there appears to always be an earnest element to what's driving the songs, both lyrically and musically.
Anyway.. the new Broken Social Social Scene tune sounds a bit like the 'Futureheads doing XTC' thing but it's still got enough guitar soupy moments and non acting type singing to make it another rockin example of what's cool about Broken Social Scene.
I'm not sure why we went with this drug lab image.
Remain admirable!

Live reviews and interviews with Lyndon Blue
BRIGHTBLACK MORNING LIGHT @ MOJO'S ///// & Davey Cradock interviewed
The live review
So I’m sitting there, minding my own beeswax-candlestick, amidst the tents-and-trees expanse of Fairbridge farm, in a sun-warmed, pollen-mottled cloud of red dust, tea-steam and pungent mystery-smoke - when all of a Sunday the disembodied face of Nathan Shineywater, ethereal founding member of Brightblack Morning Light, materializes before the now-flummoxed countenance of yours truly. Shineywater tells me to chill, he’s just practicing his astral projection, and that....

steady eye with tahlia palmer
the Renaissance of the written word!?
Contemporary communication has very little to do with physical speech. Our main modes are generally based on the written word: text messaging, emails, social networking sites, chat programs etc, wheras say 20 years ago, it was all telephone and a little bit of letter writing. Post cards too. Does anyone else miss postcards? I do.
Anyway, some may say that this equals the “Renaissance” of the written word, and by most accounts, they could be forgiven for think so. We write everything, text everything, but really, this language we’re so fond of is getting RAPED.
The most obvious example is texting. Shortening words to their base parts is, I believe, a form of illiteracy. It started in text messages and chat programs, and now kids have begun to use it in their school work. Evolution of language you might say, and I can see why; English has indeed always been evolving. But this is complete de-evolution. With a decrease in complication of language must come a decrease in the brain’s ability to deal with comples systems… Not only does writing “c u l8er 2nite” make you appear dumb, it may actually MAKE you dumber. One forgets how to do things without practise. Be careful all you adults who do that shit. It’s annoying to receive as well.

WA/CA
Free Range Gallery 339 Wellington St
Two lomographers, in different west coast cities, communicate with one another by taking a photograph at the same time of day to illustrate what they are doing or seeing at that moment. As one shoots in Western Australia and the other in California ideas of isolation, confusion, excitement and sometimes heartbreak
come through, showing how these artists use visual mechanisms to cope whilst also feeling connected to someone else even for just a second.
The photographs will be shot on medium format film using the Diana, Holga and Seagull cameras. A total of 10 diptychs will be presented for the show.
WA/CA is the third ‘Lomographers of Perth’ exhibition to be staged, following on from FotoLomo in 2008 and Super Super Sampler in 2009.
WA/CA is proudly presented by Onetrickpony as part of the FotoFreo Fringe Festival.
Please join us for opening drinks on Wednesday 14th April from 6-8pm

Hatched Exhibition
PICA
Hatched 2010: National Graduate Show
17 April - 13 June 2010
All Galleries
Hatched is Australia's most significant survey of emerging artists.
Heading into its 19th year, this landmark exhibition continues to provide an unparalleled opportunity for talented art school graduates to present their work in a professional gallery context alongside that of their national peers. It offers an all-important stepping-stone from the realm of education to the beginnings of a professional career as an artist.
This year 39 artists from 20 art schools across the country were selected to grace the vast galleries of PICA. Bear witness to these contemporary pioneers as they head into new artistic territory with their extreme mix of expanded drawing and painting practices, soft architecture and aural environments - amongst other eye, mind and ear-bending aesthetic experiments!
Hatched expands further in 2010 with the launch of the Doctor Harold Schenberg Art Prize, an annual award of $20,000 that will be presented to one Hatched artist each year. The Prize has been set up to allow an outstanding art school graduate to invest in the development of their practice through travel, research or production support.
OPENING: Friday 16 April, 6-9pm

Speaking of food Black Toms kitchen will be open from 7pm to 10 on this night and their pizzas are bang on the yummy buzzer : )

Check the interview davey did with Lyndon blue up the top of this newsletter!
Sunday, April 18, Davey Craddock is thrilled to invite you to the launch of his debut EP Introducing Davey Craddock. The EP was recorded over a week at London folk producer Oscar Cainer's Muswell Hill Studio. It was then mastered in Chicago by Mike Hagler (Wilco, Calexico, Neko Case) at King Size Sound. The release features five of Davey's folk / alt-country leaning songs being swept along by a dusty bar room backing of honky tonk piano, double bass and banjo. Joining Davey on the night will be local songwriting sensation Felicity Groom
(joined by Andrew Ryan in duo mode), the simply superb Sam Carmody, and shipwrecks, bushrangers and whisky specialist Justin Walshe

Ghostdrums EP launch
Bar 459
Kick off your Anzac Day long weekend with Ghostdrums (aka Pete Guazzelli) in a rockin' launch with special guests Lil Leonie Lionheart vs Rabbit Island and Chris Cobilis!
Love Is My Velocity is proud to introduce Ghostdrums as he launches a limited edition USB release at Bar 459 at the Rosemount Hotel on Friday April 23 from 8pm.
As an eight year old learning to play the drums, Pete Guazzelli came up with an inventive way to make sure his family didn’t disown him. By draping a big white sheet (complete with eyeholes) over the top of his kit, he muffled the noise and created Ghostdrums.
After a fruitful period drumming in local bands like Fall Electric, The Kids and Gata Negra, Pete has revisited the Ghostdrums set up by building a unique machine from parts lying around the house. Combining a gold-sparkle drum kit with pedals, synths, loopers and the junk-percussion that’s been clogging up the spare room, Ghostdrums is this long-time Perth-based musician’s new solo project.
Keeping things spooky, Ghostdrums has joined forces with Melbourne artist Ghost Patrol to produce an interactive 4-track USB release that contains a bonus video for title track ‘Morning Sun’.
Ghostdrums’ experimental electronica combines intricate production with a lo-fi acoustic sound that’s as innocent and whimsical as his performance set-up.
ALSO PLAYING!

Acts of Undressing
Perth-based independent theatre makers The Duck House are excited to present their latest creation, Acts of Undressing, a hilarious tale of three un-fascinating women in fascinators, from April 20 to May 1 at Yirra Yaakin Theatre.
In this dark, disturbing and bloody comedy three loveless milliners [hat makers] escape their boredom by creating aimless, fashionable, empty accessories. Brought together by their insignificance and insecurity, these women spend their days working on a deadly suntan, their only interests the seagulls they use for feathers and the man who lives in the lighthouse.
Written by Ian Sinclair, whose previous work includes The Bearskinner (2009, The Blue Room Theatre), Acts of Undressing features live music written and performed live on-stage by talented jazz musician Marc Osborne. The stellar cast include respected Perth-based performer Brendan Ewing (Red Shoes, Antigone) alongside Fran Middleton (The Bearskinner), Gita Bezard (The Bearskinner) and Alissa Calessens (The Bearskinner). Directed by Kathryn Osborne (The Bearskinner, The Swallow-Tailed Coat, Oscar).
