 Black Angels-Directions to see a Ghost

In some wiki way affiliated with the Brain Jonestown Massacre, the Black Angels (like BRMC) have moved away from the hippier elements of BJM and focused on the leather clad sounds of delinquency. They take the Velvet’s noise rock as a starting point then trips it out with sitars, electric jugs and an assortment of shakers and tambourines. Another feather in San Fran’s Psych Cap.

NZ finest indie rock band Die! Die! Die! are headed to Perth presented by Goldengate touring to play tracks from their recent release Promises Promises as well as heaps of ace music from their enormous back catalouge. Catch them at the Rosemount December 3 and at Mojos Bar December 4. Supports are yet to be announced for these shows. Friday, Friday October 31, the Skylounge Friday nighter at the Scotto will see and hear the always switched on Rok Riley laying down all the right soul, disco and rock groove sounds from 7PM. After that JO19 will select rare hip hop and deep cutting funk for all the heads and shoes in the room. Feature band of the night is Boom! Bap! Pow! Entry is always free to the Scotto.

Apricot Rail

Apricot Rail’s next big show will be with Melboure’s Charge Group Oct 31 at Mojos Bar. After that Apricot Rail will be playing at the Fall Electric CD launch happening November 21 at the Bakery. In other Apricot Rail news; the band have confirmed Kingdom Studios to record their debut album with engineer Simon Struthers at the helm. This is likely to be awesome – stay tuned!

Sunday, November 2, Young and Restless (VIC) play Mojos Bar! Supports include Bloods and Shock! Horror! Entry is $15 from 6pm.

Monday, November 3, performing at Mojo's for the Wide open mic will be a bunch of ambitious cats who will simply rock up on the night. This night is hosted by Justin Walshe – 0408 755 233. Justin and the crew that run the night love all kinds of performances. So whether you’re the new George, Julian Clarey, Elton John or Chopper Reid your act is eagerly awaited! Here’s your or somebody you know(s) opportunity to perform live just call Justin. These nights kick off at 8PM with about four acts each hour till 12. Entry is free.

Good Cop Bad Cop Records in association with the SILVER ARTRAGE festival are proud to present a special showcase on Wednesday 5th November at the Bakery.

Featuring a selection from Good Cop Bad Cop's eclectic roster as well as its brand new baby brother, imprint Winterborn.

The night will celebrate the arrival of Perth's newest and most prolific record label that, after just 8 months in existence, has signed the local scene's most interesting and exciting acts including Sugar Army, Schvendes, Eleventh He Reaches London, Harlequin League and Kill Teen Angst, all of whom have toured nationally at least once this year and have releases distributed in Australia nationally via Inertia.

Performances on the night from Schvendes (Good Cop Bad Cop), Streetlight (Winterborn), The Scotch of Saint James (Winterborn) and special guest Adam James.

Doors 8pm, Entry $12 with all Good Cop Bad Cop/Winterborn releases on sale on the night.

Cameraless

Spectrum Project Space
Friday October 24th 2008 until Sunday November 16th.

Cameraless is an exhibition at Spectrum Project Space featuring the work of practicing photographic artists who are also providing talks explaining these experimental techniques.

Guided by artists Daniel Nevin and Catherine Gomersall, visitors will be able to view obscure and unusual techniques using photosensitive surfaces to capture images, including pinhole photography, photograms and montage.

By removing the camera from the photographic process artists create innovative works challenging the ascription of meaning to photographic images.

Featuring work by Daniel Nevin, Catherine Gomersall , Panizza Allmark, Karen Rees & others.
