The Brow Horn Orchestra is a six piece afro-electro funk band from Perth that has garnered a cult following.
After speaking to the Arts Law Centre of Australia, the Brow Horn found out that their band was a partnership, even though there was no written agreement. A written partnership agreement is really important as it details things like song ownership rights, profit shares and what happens if they ever split up.
The Arts Law Centre recommended that the Brow Horn also create letter agreements with each performer recording what each performer was expected to do (attend practice sessions, turn up to gigs, expenses etc), how they would be paid, and what would happen when they left the band.
The Arts Law Centre of Australia provides legal advice and information for people in the Australian arts community. Read more about how they helped the Brow Horn Orchestra on their website.
